Poppy Healy (Year 11- photo) and Naomi Waite (Year 11) have both been selected in the Athletics Wellington team to compete at the NZ Track & Field Championships in Hastings next week, which is an awesome achievement when they are both still 14 and 15 years old. Poppy will compete in the Under 18 400m and 800m and Naomi in the Under 18 high jump.
Poppy was very disappointed to have athletics day cancelled and now the CSW and North Island Secondary Schools events have been cancelled as well. It’s such a shame when she is running so well. She followed up her North Island championship (Girls 14) win at the Colgate Games in the 800m, also winning the South Island championship, then went on to run at the Potts and Capital classics in the senior grades and posted times in both the 800m and 400m (2:14.3 and 58.3) that have put her in the top 5 on the New Zealand U18 rankings for both events.
