Cross Country

The 20-strong WGC team headed up to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross-Country Championships in Hawera last weekend. There were fantastic results from the team but the standouts were Year 10 Ava Sutherland winning the Junior National title, followed 2 seconds later by Amy McHardy who took out 2nd place in the division. Poppy Healy came 6th and Kate McHardy 9th. These runners were joined by Rosa Stanley (25th) and Lillie Beliveau (29th) to take out the 6-person team award for the Junior division. (Pictured at the medal ceremony left to right; Amy, Kate, Lillie, Rosa, Poppy and Ava). The top 4 WGC runners were also selected to run in the relay team for the region and Wellington took first place in the Junior division.
The best run from a WGC Senior was Lucy Jurke at 18th and the highest ranked Year 9 runner was Annabel Tuck who came in at 11th.
Well done to the team and big thanks to the parents who organised the trip.
