Cross country nationals which were held in Nelson recently:
WGC were by far the most dominant school in the team events, with three golds and two silvers.
Senior – Gold three person team, gold six person team (these girls have won every team event they have competed in this year)
Junior – silver three person, silver six person
Year 9 – gold three person
In terms of individual results we had the following girls in the top 10:
Year 9 – JuJu Moorhead (4th), Maia Holden (9th) (see photo)
Junior – Poppy Healy (6th)
Senior – Ava Sutherland (7th) and Kate McHardy (9th)
Of special note is Kate who showed amazing resilience – she lost her shoe on the start line and ended up stopping twice to sort it out. By the time she got her shoe back on the back runners were a good 200 metres away – she chased them down and passed 94 runners to finish in the top 10. Her performance was noted by a lot of spectators for being unbelievable. Ava and Kate have also been invited to be part of the NZ team to run in Australia in August.
