Komatsu Apprenticeship Programme

We have extended our 2023 Komatsu Apprenticeship Program recruitment, this now closes this Sunday 14th August 2022.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite students who plan to complete school in 2022, to apply.

Therefore, please forward this information on to those who may be interested in completing a Plant Mechanic Trade with a global leader in manufacturing & one of the world’s largest distributor of earthmoving and mining equipment.

The Program will commence in January 2023 in the following locations: Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch & Invercargill.

Komatsu is a wonderful company to work for and our apprentice scheme is rated one of the best.  The first 3 weeks of the apprentice’s time with us is based in Brisbane Australia where they get immersed in the Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS) before returning to their branch in NZ.  Each apprentice is assigned a mentor in NZ as well as having an overall scheme mentor based from Australia.  The apprenticeship is run through MITO who also assign programme facilitators who are in constant contact with the apprentice.  The whole system is set up to succeed.

In addition to the technical requirements of the apprenticeship, our apprentices are also required to complete the MITO level 3 leadership programme and they get training on life skills such as public speaking, budgeting and conflict resolution.  We want our apprentices to finish as well rounded, contributing individuals not only to our company but society.

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in your chosen trade with Komatsu
  • A willingness to commit to structured, classroom based and, on the job, field training
  • An aptitude for technical/mechanical work
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Someone with a strong, ongoing commitment to workplace health & safety
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
