UC 4 Week Transition Māori & Pasifika Scholarship

UC would like to share with you a new and amazing opportunity for Year 13 Māori and Pacific students enrolling in UC for 2021.

 

Takere is a scholarship for Māori and Pacific students who are interested in attending a four week transition academy to develop skills and confidence focusing on strengthening relationships, study skills and resilience necessary for academic success. In line with the narrative of exploration and navigation, Takere will provide the required tools needed to navigate the university landscape.

What does Takere involve?

Takere is a free four week, live-in, on campus scholarship which includes:

  • All meals
  • A weekly allowance
  • Fees-Free 15 point course
  • Whakawhanaungatanga with other Māori and Pacific students and staff
  • Social and cultural activities both on and off campus
  • The opportunity to participate in the UC Māori leadership programme, Paihere and Pacific Mentoring Programme
  • Dedicated and tailored mentoring with a Kaiurungi Māori or a UC Pacific advisor
  • Support for whānau of recipients on how best to support your child at university
  • Engagement with the Amokapua Waka Pākākano | Assistant Vice Chancellor Māori, Pacific and Equity, Dr Darryn Russell
Who is eligible?

Students who:

  • Have whakapapa Māori and/or Pacific, and
  • Are intending to enrol at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury as a full time first-year student 2021, and
  • Are able to commit to a four week live in programme from 18th January – 12th February 2021
