UC Message about Credit Requirements for Engineering with the changes to UE

Yes, at the moment we are sticking with 14 credits for Chemistry, Maths/ Calculus (including differentiation and integration) and Physics. This is due to the preparation required for success in the standard courses. However, we have softer start/ introductory courses for all 3 subjects as well. Students would only do the introductory courses they need. Hence, the wonderful flexibility at UC Engineering. Students are all considered part of UC Engineering First Year regardless of the combination of introductory and standard courses.

Please do reassure parents that we are monitoring the situation and reaching out to schools to make sure we adapt as needed. UC is experienced with being adaptive as we went through the complexity of the post-quake years. My advice to students is to do the credits the school offers. Grab the opportunities you get at your school. Work hard and know that all those hard won remote learning skills this year, will be a huge asset during University study. So, although some credits may be missed this year, students will have far superior self-management and self-directed study skills than ever before.

I guess my feel is that the stress of this is on schools and Universities and not on the students J We are the ones that need to sort this out. Students just need to do their best.
