I am emailing to promote the Girls* on Ice Aotearoa program, led by the Antarctic Research Centre at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Girls* on Ice Aotearoa is an 11-day, tuition-free expedition to Mt Ruapehu in January 2024 open to girls* aged 15-16. Students will embark on an adventure of outdoor exploration combined with lessons in science, art and mātauranga Māori. The expedition will provide an opportunity for girls* to learn about the changing landscape of Mt Ruapehu from experts in Earth sciences, and connect with the natural world through art.
The Girls* on Ice Aotearoa program will support 10 successful applicants, including providing all necessary equipment and clothing. This will be an incredible opportunity for students from all backgrounds to connect with the outdoors and meet like-minded individuals, and a brilliant introduction to Earth science, should students wish to pursue science further.
