Wellington Junior Science Tournament

This is a competition for Year 10 students that are interested in Science Concepts, making/setting up experiments, arguing ideas and working as a team. The competition is a whole day in Term 4 (TBC late November/early December) where you will compete against other schools in the Wellington Region.

There are three open-ended problems. Students have to develop their own solutions and, at the tournament, present a solution in 10 minutes. The problems are published in October and from then on students can start working on them. In the tournament itself, students have to defend their presentation in a “science fight” – kind of like a science debate. Teams of 3-4 students will be made up based on numbers of participants.

For those that are interested there is a meeting on the 27th Sept – Week 10 at lunchtime in T04 with Mr Collard and Ms Woolf. In this meeting, Ms Woolf will give you information as to what is involved and then ask for expressions of interest for those that want to sign up and be part of the competition

Please email Ms Woolf directly if you cannot attend, but are interested in signing up or wanting to organise another time to find out more. (hayley.woolf@wgc.school.nz).

(Note: those that are part of the Nobel Prize Programme this tournament is worth points towards the programme)
