Yoobee College Competition

Yoobee College’s ‘Light and Dark’ competition winners 2020 – 2nd prize (secondary school category) – Tamon Smith (Year 13):
Over 400+ creatives throughout Aotearoa entered into Light & Dark last year! Hundreds of secondary school students from the top of Northland to the bottom of Otago became part of our Light & Dark community.
1st PRIZE won a one-year SCHOLARSHIP to a degree of their choice out of a Bachelor of Animation Degree, or Bachelor of Software Engineering Degree at Yoobee Colleges, New Zealand’s largest specialist creative and IT college.
2nd and 3rd PRIZE won a free-spot on a select range of Yoobee Colleges programmes valued within $180-$3,000 depending on the programme of choice.
And all winners prize packages included $350 Gordon Harris gift-vouchers, and a one-year Adobe Creative Suite subscription. And 1st and 2nd prize winners also get a Wacom device!
Winners demonstrated their ability to:
Interpret and execute the Light & Dark character design brief
Apply time-management skills to their characters’ development
Captured the art of emotion through facial expression, pose, movement and environment setting. The Light & Dark judging criteria was set to 60% expression, 20% pose and 20% wow factor.
The Top 20, and Top 10 finalists were selected by animation tutors from Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington and Christchurch Yoobee campuses.
Game, and digital experience company, Cerebral Fix, that works with some of the largest names in the entertainment industry, joined in on the Light & Dark judging panel and worked with our team to select Eva, Tamon and Anastasija out of the Top 10 finalists.  Awesome work Tamon, well done.
