Hockey Preseason Sessions

WGC Hockey will be running a small 3-week long pre-season academy for any players interested in upskilling themselves ahead of trials or anyone wanting to give a hockey a go before deciding to join a team this year. The session’s will target individual’s basic skills, with minimal combative or game-play drills so that players of all abilities can upskill themselves with no pressure.

We are particularly targeting year 9, new-to-hockey, and less-experienced players (last years 4th or 5th XI) – though it is an open invite. The sessions will be planned by Riley Jennings (Hockey Convener and 1st XI coach) with the assistance of some of our year 13 premier players. With a large amount of coaches present, there will be plenty of small group opportunities so all players are encouraged to improve individually.

The cost is free and there is no registration process, this will in no way influence trial decisions, and no roll will be taken. Summer sports still take a priority this early in the year!

The sessions are run at lunchtime on the school turf. Please bring a stick, shin pads and a mouth guard if possible. You can attend one or all sessions, though keepers are encouraged to only attend session 3 for goalie specific training.
