Innovative Young Minds STEMM Programme For Young Women in the July School Holiday

Applications for the programme are now open. IYM is a one-week residential programme based in Lower Hutt that gives young women in Years 11 and 12 a hands-on experience in STEMM businesses, research organisations and tertiary institutions. You can learn more about IYM on our website: www.iym.org.nz.

Like last year, the programme will run nationwide to give even more young women from around New Zealand the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, maths and high-tech manufacturing (STEMM) careers. We are looking for students who show potential in STEMM subjects, not necessarily those who have performed at the top of their class in the past. We want to inspire students that have not had exposure to STEMM subjects previously or who need to build their confidence to pursue these subjects further.
We are offering two sessions of the programme during the first and second weeks of the July school holidays, with 40 places available per programme. Half of these places will be open to Year 11 and 12 young women from throughout New Zealand, and the remaining half will continue to be offered exclusively to students from schools in the Greater Wellington Region.

Applications close on 1 April 2020 and students can apply online at www.iym.org.nz/programme/. Please also note that we do require a teacher to supply a reference in support of each student’s application. The full cost of the programme is $1460, but thanks to the generous support of our partners and supporters, students only pay $170 plus travel costs (if any) to Wellington. Some full scholarships are also available.
