We’re calling for Year 9 and Year 10 students who would like to enter the New Zealand National Spelling Bee!
The aim of the National Spelling Bee Competition is to provide Years 9-10 students with a learning challenge that will expand their vocabulary and give them a greater appreciation of the English language. You will be given the 2021 wordlist to study, and then be tested on your spelling of these words during June – so you still have four weeks to learn the words!
Years 9-10 students who master the word list will receive their test results determining the top 200 spellers who will qualify for a place in one of the six regional competitions around the country in August. The top 18 finalists will then attend the 2021 Spelling Bee Aotearoa New Zealand Final in Wellington. The Champion Speller will win the 2021 Spelling Bee Trophy and $5000.
