Board Update
Wellington Girls’ College (WGC) SPORTS PHILOSOPHY
Following the Board’s Sports Review in November 2023, the Board (via the Sports Advisory Sub-Committee) has developed a Sports Philosophy for WGC. This philosophy is for students, sport leaders, coaches, administrators, teachers, parents and caregivers – everyone has a role to play to ensure that sport at WGC is based on Fun, Fitness, Fulfilment, Friends and Whānau.
The Sports Philosophy will help guide the approach to sport at WGC – it will be displayed around the school and included with information provided to everyone involved in sport at the start of each season.
The Board wishes winter sports teams all the best for the season ahead – keeping the focus on W-G-C:
• WELLBEING: Balance is Better, with positive benefits for Physical and Mental Wellbeing
• GROWTH: In Participation, Retention and High Performance
• COMMUNITY: Whānau Engagement, particularly Parents, Coach, Manager, and Volunteer Support
ARTS AND CULTURE DISCOVERY – The Board would love your input
We are reviewing ‘Arts and Culture’ at WGC to see how the Board might better support these areas from a governance perspective.
Our focus is mainly on extra-curricular activities at WGC – Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Kapa Haka, Poly club, Asian Performance Club, Debating and Speech and Language competitions.
We’d love to hear your feedback – about what’s going well, and what could be better – and we invite whanau and students to come along to a hui with the Board review committee.
Your insights will directly impact the Discovery – please join us or share your views:
-
Hui – 5.30pm on Tuesday 17 June at WGC in the staffroom
-
If you can’t make the hui – please share your thoughts via this link. The survey is quick and anonymous if you prefer, and you can tell us as much or as little as you want.
