Duke of Edinburgh – Volunteer opportunity

I received the following message from Teana McDonald at Wellington City Mission. This is a great opportunity for volunteering for something very worthwhile.

We are launching our youth programme 2022 this term!

I am reaching out to see if any of your bronze Duke of Ed students are keen to be a part of it. I am currently looking for 8 students, and have reached out to a couple of schools.

The programme aims to equip students to care for the community with compassion, humility, and generosity. It has 2 parts to it- an educational part and service part. The education component includes hearing from our staff about the work they do and allowing space for conversations about caring for the community. The service part puts this to action allowing the students a space to volunteer and be a part of the work we do. The students will participate in various volunteer activities such as baking/cooking, cleaning, sorting food donations and other tasks around the Mission. The programme is a fun way for students to complete their Duke of Ed! Its fun, engaging and lead by youth! Your students who completed our pilot programme thoroughly enjoyed it and left feeling like they had learnt lots. Clare and Petulia are actually helping me lead this programme with the new students .The programme is run Monday nights 4pm-5pm here at 19 Gordon Place.
