Applications for Innovative Young Minds (IYM) 2021 are now open! IYM’s programmes are designed to encourage young women to explore the wide range of research and career opportunities available in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and high-tech manufacturing). We seek to encourage diversity in New Zealand’s science and technology industry by inspiring a new generation of innovators and industry leaders. In 2021 we are offering two exciting programme options for young women from the Wellington region:
IYM Online 2021
Five half-day sessions delivered entirely online during the first week of the April school holidays. Places are limited to 100 and there is a small programme fee of $30.
IYM Residential 2021
A six-day residential programme based at Silverstream Retreat in Lower Hutt during the first week of the July school holidays. This programme is limited to 40 places. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, participants will only pay $170 to attend.
On both programmes, participants will be exposed to eye-opening and inspiring science and technology content through:
- Tours of laboratories and other spaces in universities, Crown Research Institutes and businesses.
- Interactive sessions where researchers and innovators showcase their research and work.
- Inspiring career panels led by women working in STEMM.
- Hands-on science and technology activities (these will be adapted for our IYM Online programme).
- Team-building and networking sessions.
- An Innovation Challenge where participants work in teams led by an industry expert mentor.
Young women from the Greater Wellington Region are eligible to apply for either IYM Online 2021 or IYM Residential 2021 depending on their preference. Applications for IYM Online close on 15 March 2021 and for IYM Residential on 1 April 2021. If you have any students who will require assistance with the fee for either programme, please get in touch as we may be able to assist with this.
