Innovative Young Minds (IYM) is again being held in 2021 and applications open on Sunday 1 November. As you were nominated as a teacher referee by one of our 2020 applicants, you may already be familiar with IYM. Our programme offers young women in years 11 and 12 the opportunity to learn about the wide range of research and career opportunities available in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and high-tech manufacturing). This year, our traditional one-week residential programme was cancelled due to Covid 19. However, we quickly adapted and ran a successful IYM Online 2020 programme with 98 participants. In 2021 we are offering two programme options for young women from the Greater Wellington Region and on both programmes, participants will be exposed to eye-opening and inspiring science and technology content in the most interactive way possible.
IYM Online 2021
Five half-day sessions delivered entirely online during the first week of the April school holidays. Places are limited to 100 and there is a small programme fee of $30.
IYM Residential 2021
A six-day residential programme based at Silverstream Retreat in Lower Hutt during the first week of the July school holidays. This programme is limited to 40 places. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, participants will only pay $170 to attend.
Young women from the Greater Wellington Region are eligible to apply for either IYM Online 2021 or IYM Residential 2021 depending on their preference. Applications open on 1 November 2020 and close for IYM Online on 15 March 2021 and for IYM Residential on 1 April 2021. Students can apply online at www.iym.org.nz from this Sunday.
