More Info About Changes to Auckland University Entrance Requirements

Further to NZQA’s announcement, the University will be putting in measures to support students entering university in 2021. Our offering centres on “Pae tawhiti – student success”. It’s about guided pathways for students – aiming to provide a university pathway for everyone.

To support this, the University will place a stronger emphasis on Year 12 results than in the past. The guaranteed entry score (rank score) that we have used previously will not be required to guarantee a student’s place in a programme.

The 2021 guided pathway entry requirements are summarised below:

  For entry in 2021
Early Programme Offers Strong Year 12 results (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) + UE, once achieved.
Early Conditional Offers Year 12 results + UE, once achieved + specific Year 13 requirements (across completed NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 subjects, or equivalent Cambridge International or IB results) where required.

Other requirements may apply which will be specified in the offer letter

Table A and B requirements Removed (suspended for NCEA and Cambridge International) for the 2021 academic year.

A more permanent decision on A & B tables is under consideration.

Discretionary Entrance If UE is not achieved, in certain circumstances, Year 13 students can be considered under Discretionary Entrance for Semester One 2021.
Additional Support

Support for catch-up credits on campus over Summer for those who have not achieved UE.

Additional preparation available through enhanced science and mathematics support drawing on the University’s STEM Online NZ programme, Unibound and Tertiary Foundation Certificate.

The key message for students is – apply early and receive an offer. Offers will provide a clear statement of what students need to achieve this year to secure entry to the University.
