New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge 2022

We would like to invite your High School Students interested in ICT careers (e.g. cybersecurity) to take part in the upcoming NZ Cyber Security Challenge 2022 established by the University of Waikato, this is the 9th edition of the annual challenge.

Each year we invite High School students, University students, and Industry members to participate in this exciting event. The event starts with an online challenge (Round 0), which is open to all.

After the online challenge, we will tabulate the scores and invite the top teams (approximately 150 individuals), i.e. our ‘master class’, to the University of Waikato Hamilton campus for Rounds 1 and 2. We are also planning to have exciting side challenges for all participants over the two days.

The draft schedule of the NZCSC’22 is as follows:

  • 01 June – 15 June (tentative dates):

    • Online Round 0 available to ALL competitors

  • 22 – 23 July:

    • Round 1 – Capture the Flag: solve challenges to acquire flags for scoring

    • Round 2 – Incident response quiz

    • Cyber security job fair and talks

Last year, more than 500 participants registered for the NZCSC and 147 were invited for the competition. There will be very attractive prizes for high school, tertiary and industry participants. Please help us to spread the word to anyone whom you believe will be interested in participating.

The registration of Interest link can be found here:

The event is free-of-charge, and it will be a great opportunity for students to learn more about cybersecurity as well as validating their own knowledge and skills.

Please feel free to contact me (hkaur@waikato.ac.nz) or Dr. Vimal Kumar (vimal.kumar@waikato.ac.nz) if you have any queries or feedback about the competition.
