Isabelle Aduna

Kia ora WGC! I’m Isabelle Aduna, a Year 12 student, and I’m putting myself forward to be your student representative on the Board.

Youth voice is something I’ve cared about well before running for this role. Through my youth advisory work with the Wellington City Council, I’ve seen firsthand how decisions get made and how easily young people’s perspectives can get left out of that process unless someone actively pushes for them to be included. I want to bring that same push to WGC’s Board.

During my time in school, I’ve built relationships across different parts of our community: sports, tuākana, peer tutoring, science fair, working as an English associate, and leading French Club as a language associate. I’m also the writing section leader for the cultural section of Te Rīpoata, where part of my job is making sure student stories and views actually make it onto the page.

These roles have enlightened me and taught me how to listen to students whose experiences and perspectives may differ from my own, and how to speak clearly on their behalf. I’ve learned that different points of view can strengthen discussions and broaden understanding that ultimately leads to better decisions.

With our school growing and changing every day, it’s easy for students to feel like things happen to them rather than with them. As your representative, I want to make sure students know what’s being decided and why, and make sure the Board hears what we actually think before decisions are made, not after.

If elected, I will work to make sure that student voice is not just something we talk about but something that genuinely shapes our school. I believe that decisions that affect us should include us, and the future of our school should be something we help create together.

Kia Ora WGC! My name is Lucy Darlow and I am running to be your student board representative. I am a dedicated, enthusiastic and dependable year 12 student and I would love the opportunity to represent our kura and ensure that our voices are heard.

As a diplomat’s child I have extensive experience in meeting new people and forming new relationships. I am a confident presenter and able to effectively communicate my point of view to an adult audience, which I believe is an essential part of this role.

WGC is going through a time of great change and so it is critical, now more than ever, for us to make our voices heard. I firmly believe that being the student board representative doesn’t mean being the person with the most ideas of how to make WGC a better place, but instead the person who can effectively communicate everyone’s opinions without any personal bias. As a year 12 going into year 13, I will not personally get to reap the benefits of all the construction around our school. However, that means I am in the best position to advocate for the good of the whole school because I have the ability to focus solely on the bigger picture.

Given how much instability onsite building causes, I understand the need for stability in the student board representative. It is a role that holds a significant amount of power and with that comes a lot of responsibility. The choices that are made now will affect everyone and so now more than ever your board representative needs to be someone you can rely on and I know I can be that person!

I would love an opportunity to help our school become the best it can be and to make a positive impact on the school community. WGC has been such a supportive welcoming place for me and I hope that you can trust me to carry on that legacy and make a difference within our Kura. YOUR voice is the most important thing and it WILL be heard!

Kia ora! I’m Natalia Ford, a Year 12 student here at Wellington Girls’ College, and I’m running to be your student representative on the school Board.

Getting involved in different parts of WGC has always been something I’ve really enjoyed, from sport and choir to leadership opportunities. I’ve always loved talking to new people, hearing different opinions, and genuinely find it interesting to hear how other people think, especially when their experiences or perspectives are different from my own. Being involved in different parts of WGC has given me lots of opportunities to meet people from different year levels, cultures and backgrounds, and hear perspectives I might not otherwise have come across.

For the past three years, I’ve been a Student Council representative, as well as a tuakana and this year, a peer tutor. These roles have taught me a lot about listening to people, supporting others and working with different students across the school. Being comfortable speaking up and sharing my ideas has also given me plenty of opportunities to develop my communication and public speaking skills. They’ve also given me the chance to put WGC’s values into practice — showing manaakitanga by supporting others, manawaroa by sticking with things when they’re challenging, ngākau pono by being genuine and honest with others, and whakarangatira by encouraging the people around me to be their best.

WGC has given me so many opportunities to try new things, meet people and grow as a person, and I really appreciate being part of such a welcoming and energetic school community. I’d love the opportunity to give something back and help make sure all students get the most out of their time here too.

My goal as your student representative would be to represent and support every student and help make WGC a place where everyone can get the most out of their time here. I believe that it’s really important to hear opinions that are different from your own. Not everyone is going to agree on everything, and understanding where people are coming from is an important part of representing them.

If I am elected, students should feel comfortable coming up and talking to me. Whether you have an idea, a concern, or just something you think I should know, I want to hear it. I’ll bring your views to the Board and make sure students are kept informed about decisions that affect us.

Kia Ora! My name is Georgia Gill, and I am a Year 12 student at WGC. Having attended our school for four years, I have had plenty of time to think about what makes a good representative. To me, it is someone who can represent not just themselves and their friends, but all 1400 of their peers. Someone who is willing to explore different parts of their community and understand the experiences of a wide range of students.

During my time at WGC, I’ve tried to do exactly that. I’ve explored nearly all of our sports, participated in debating and speech competitions, attended science and maths conventions, joined a variety of clubs, and taken subjects ranging from Chinese to Economics to Biology to Media Studies. I often haven’t excelled in these areas, but that isn’t what matters. Exploring so many parts of WGC has allowed me to meet different people and

understand our school from a variety of perspectives. I believe this would make me a strong Board Representative.

Through being a youth representative on the Capital Football Advisory Group, serving on Student Council, co-running a club, and being Head of Communications for the Genesia Girls Committee, I have developed the confidence and communication skills to ensure our voices as students are not only heard, but respected.

If given this opportunity, I promise to represent our student body through the good and the bad, with student wellbeing at the centre of every decision. If you are looking for a representative that will ensure your voice, no matter who you are, is heard, I promise to be that for you.

My name is Kate Johnson, and I am currently a year 12 student here at WGC.

I’ve spent enough time at this school to know that everyone has something to say, whether it’s a serious issue, something we want changed, or even just something we think could be better. I want to be the person who actually takes those opinions somewhere.

Throughout my time here, I’ve tried to throw myself into as much of school life as I can, whether that’s through sport, music or student leadership. Being involved in so many different parts of WGC has meant I’ve met people I probably never would have otherwise, and heard a lot of different opinions along the way. I think that’s important, because you can’t really represent a school if you only know one small part of it.

If you asked a teacher to say one word about me, I could guess what they’d say – loud. I used to really not like the word loud, but I think there’s power behind it. You will always hear my voice, and I’ll always make sure you’re heard. BOT Rep is a role all about voice, and it doesn’t matter how shiny you are – if you can’t be loud, you won’t be heard.

I’ve been elected as Student Council Representative in 2024 and 2026; I’ve always loved sharing my voice, so why stop there? Even though I’m loud, don’t be intimidated – I love being loud with people. That’s the fun part, laughing with your friends or talking to all the people in this school. The fun is being loud together not as one voice. I want to help us all be loud.

My name is Nikolah Teofilo, and I’m a Year 12 student here at WGC. I’m running to be your student representative on the Board of Trustees because I want to make sure that student voices are heard, represented, and valued in the decisions that shape our school.

Throughout my time at WGC, I have been involved in a range of different areas of school life, including sports such as Ki-o-Rahi and netball, being a Student Council representative, being a member of Fala Komiti, Maths Associate, and taking part in different clubs. Being involved in these different groups has allowed me to meet and work alongside students from different year levels, backgrounds, and interests. It has helped me understand that everyone has different experiences and perspectives of school, and that every student voice is important.

Through these experiences, I have also developed my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. I have learnt how important it is to listen to others, speak up when something matters, and work together to find solutions. I believe these are important qualities for someone representing students on the Board.

As students, we deserve to know what is happening at our school and to have a say in the decisions that affect us. I want to be someone students feel comfortable approaching with their ideas, concerns, and questions. I would make it a priority to listen to a wide range of student voices and communicate these perspectives honestly and respectfully at Board meetings.

My name is Milla Welch and I will be in my 5th year at Wellington Girls’ College in 2027. I am applying to be your student representative with the goal of bringing all your voices into the board’s decisions. Being in many clubs and both competitive and social sports teams, (netball, volleyball, underwater hockey, dragon boating, futsal, ultimate frisbee, water polo, Amnesty Club, French language associates and fem radio!), as well as a tuakana, I’ve actively shown whakawhanaungatanga over my time at WGC, working collaboratively with people all over the school. I’m familiar with working in group environments, both listening and speaking up for what I think is right for everyone.

I have always considered myself as an optimistic, open-minded person and after studying abroad last year for 3 months, my horizons have truly been broadened for school life and I have many ideas on how we could enhance our school community. Seeing fresh environments has inspired me to bring the same energy into our kura and I’m eager to bring my new ideas to life and build an even better WGC experience together. My vision is to help build a school culture where every student feels continuously uplifted, supported, and valued.

I believe I would be a mature, determined and proactive choice for the student board rep – someone who is approachable, connected across all year groups, and ready to stand up for you. I am never one to shy away from putting my hand up or facing a challenge, and if you have any ideas or concerns, I will be a friendly face to talk to – committed to ensuring your voice is heard and working to advocate for effective solutions.I hope to be the bridge between you as the student body and the executive decisions that happen within the board. It is our school after all and we deserve someone capable and genuinely invested to be the voice of our peers, witnessing and pitching in to any suggested ideas that could change WGC for the better. Above all, I wish to integrate your opinions and ideas into the kura’s big decisions, solely making positive changes to Wellington Girls’ College.
